On this commission, the clients had a very clear program and some hard deadlines, such as an upcoming wedding. The original site had some issue with unhealthy white fir trees and limited outdoor space.
Before implementing the final design, we set upon bringing the existing forest to a healthy state by removing the sick firs and thinning out what was a dense and fire-unsafe thicket.
The natural slope lent itself beautifully to a bi-forked waterfall and the creation of an outdoor natural stone patio for lounging and dining, meant to accommodate many people when needed, as well as a second lower patio, which houses a natural stone fire pit. Overall, we strived to create a versatile space suitable to the social and active lifestyle these clients enjoy, while also providing a natural and calm environment, away from their busy life in the Bay Area.
